Concept This exhibit will gather artwork showcasing Morgan County, West Virginia. The county is home to the town of Bath, now known as Berkeley Springs, first surveyed by George Washington and now one of the top 100 US small art towns, as determined by Niche magazine. The region offers a range of subject matter, and it is hoped that many aspects of the area will be represented by the artwork: the town of Bath, the warm springs and wellness community, Cacapon State Park, the Cacapon River, the mining of Oriskany sand, flora, fauna, people, businesses and countryside.
For background information on the area, see www.berkeleysprings.com A historical video: at video.google.com (search for Recreation Resources) video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8887963968104949210&q=cacapon&pr=goog-sl&hl=en
Work begun any time after May 31, 2007, and completed by June 1, 2008, is eligible. Of particular interest will be pieces capturing identifiable Morgan County sites and characteristics. All media will be considered, with the exception of photographs. Three dimensional work will be considered provided it is of the ilk described above, or perhaps made of materials collected in Morgan County (wood, basketry materials, or clay, for example, which please note when you submit the work for review)
Parameters: All work submitted must be born from first hand observation: on site sketches, painting, and other personal on site preparation, OR first hand research of historical documents. Work completed in the studio following such on site preparation is acceptable (ie: using photographs taken by the artist on site to complete the work in the studio); work done entirely on site/en plein air should be noted as such. No photographs for this show, please. Do not submit any work that has been previously displayed in Morgan County (except at your personal studio).
Please include as much information as possible regarding the exact location of the site portrayed, as well as date and time of day depicted in the work with submission materials. GPS coordinates are appreciated but not mandatory. Wed like to have a map of the county showing the locations of the various paintings
