Sponsored by Climate Action Alliance of the Valley
Climate Action Alliance of the Valley (CAAV) is soliciting art works for a show at Clementine Café for the month of January 2011. Climate Action Alliance of the Valley is a local grassroots group dedicated to limiting the human impact on climate in order to protect the future of Earth and its inhabitants. In addition to advocating to our legislators that they vote according to the science of climate change, we work to educate ourselves and others about the effects and immediacy of climate disruption.
Because of humanity's dependence on fossil fuels and the effect this has had on our environment, we feel urgency about the need to change the ways we live in order to decrease the pace of warming.
CAAV is soliciting art work reflecting this urgency. Personal reactions to climate change threats are often emotional, and are an essential component of what we learn and wish to pass on to others. Art can convey our emotional responses to this crisis, and we invite you to submit work which expresses this.
All entries are welcome, but space is limited. CAAV Show organizers will accept up to30 entries depending on the size of the work. The space at Clementine can accommodate art appropriately mounted to be hung flat against the wall, in most cases, with the use of wire and eyehooks.
All you need to do is:
1. Submit a picture of your art work and its dimensions either to: 1) Page Shields at page60@comcast.net; Lynn Smith ( if you have a Mac computer) at tracksmith@aol.com ;or send it to Cathy Strickler at 1225 Hillcrest Dr., Harrisonburg, VA.
2. Deposit your art at the home of Cathy and Charlie Strickler (address above) on:
Dec. 18, 19, or 20, along with your signed "agreement" which is attached below. Also, attach a label to the work which includes your name, the name of the piece, the medium used, and the price if you intend to offer it for sale. Selling art is between you and the purchaser, so please include contact information on the label also.
Installation of the art will take place on Jan. 2, and it will be taken down on Jan. 30. You may pick up your art at Clementine between 10 and 12 AM on January 30, 2011.
There will be an Official Opening for the Show held on Friday, Jan. 7, from 5-7PM. You are invited to this event and may invite others to attend with you.
