Creative Digs - small blog database and forum for young artists and writers of the valley

Hello,

my name is Natalie Strickland and I am an aspiring writer and junior English and Writing & Rhetoric major at James Madison University. I am starting Creative Digs, a site comprised of a blog and forum for young artists and writers: creativedigs.tumblr.com/

I am aware that my aim is very similar to the Shenandoah Valley Arts and Artists Network and Arts Forum, but thought some members may be interested especially since it is geared towards younger, unestablished artists and writers who have not yet happened, resonated, and detonated in the real world.  This is not a professional site, it's more of an informal display for exposure. There is zero mandatory commitment past the point of providing basic information.

Purpose:

Reveal and connect young artists and writers

(*within but not limited to the 18-20something age bracket, graduated from or attending Mary Baldwin, James Madison University, Eastern Mennonite University, Blue Ridge Community College, or Bridgewater Community College, or residing in the Shenandoah Valley region)

Stimulate collaboration

Provide a small catalogue of available creative workers

Expose students and young artists to potential offers for work before and after graduation

Each blog entry will detail

1) an artist or writer

2) their contact information

3) a brief description of what the artist is capable of

4) the kind of work or interaction that interests them.

Additional information (resume, photos of work, links to online portfolios or social networking pages) is optional. The level of detail and professionalism is completely up to the artist.

A forum will be available for questions, requests, or announcements for ongoing and future projects.

Forum topics will be broad, anything related to art and the creative community in the Shenandoah Valley and JMU. Example posts may include announcements for house shows, concerts, poetry readings, or gallery openings; open calls for art models and actors for student films; auditions for new band members; film and documentary showings; and selling or requesting art supplies and instruments.

If you have any questions please hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Natalie Strickland
