Silver Metals Workshop
Two days of creative fun with Sarah Lock, MA in metalsmithing/jewelry! Learn to use tools and techniques: create chains, set stones, form/forge sire, solder with torch, cut sheet metal, master jewelers was, pliers, hammers, files, etc. Tools and some materials provided. Silver/stones available at cost or bring your own. Ages: 16 and up (maximum 6 students) Cost: $190/180 (members), includes materials Date: March 9-10, 9:00am-4:30pm (register by March 2)
Ukranian Easter Egg Workshops
Learn the Pysanky technique of layering beeswax and dye, using special tools to decorate eggs. Cynthia Shank (BS Art Ed.) will share its history and meanings of symbols and colors used. Take home 1-2 eggs per class. Relief Printmaking

Art for Tots
Come explore art materials with your little one! Artist/educator/early childhood intervention specialist, Charlotte Shristi will introduce one simple art principle per session while encouraging exploration, freedom of expression and learning to love the process of creation! Ages: 1-4 (children past the oral phase, please) Cost: $35/5 class package (to be redeemed any Monday), $8 for walk-ins Dates: Every Monday starting April-July, 10:00-10:45am (register by March 25)
Encaustic and Mixed Media Class
Learn techniques for combining visual art forms and the confidence to experiment fearlessly! Artist Charlotte Shristi (BA Fine Art; charlotteshristiart.blogspot.com) will teach how to layer objects, wax, paint, photographs and drawing media. Learn encaustic painting using molten wax to build texture and embed objects. Safety to be an emphasis. Ages: 16 and up Cost: $80/75 (members) for 4 classes Teacher to call with materials list. Provide your own or ask teacher to order materials at cost. Dates: Saturdays in April, June, July; 9:00am-12:00pm (register by the 15th of previous month)
Oil Painting (two class options)
Elaine Hurst (www.elainehurst.com) is offering "Painting the Burg" plein air (painting outdoors) to paint different locations around town, as well as an oil painting class for all levelsfocusing on light, color and value. Students to supply their own materials. Contact Instuctor at 433-2199 for more info. Encaustic Painting/Mixed Media
Artist Karen Eide will offer this lab to introduce classic encaustic painting techniques and explore how to combine them with contemporary processes: surface embellishment, image transfer, incising, collage and combining with oil painting, pastels, markers and inks. Glass Beadmaking (two class options)
Glass bead artist Dinah Mitchell (MA) will offer beginner workshop on basics of lampworking, winding hot glass onto a mandrel, safety, equipment/tools and basic techniques for round and barrel beads, frit, dots and stringer. Students will have time to practice at the torch. A six week beginner/intermediate class will cover the above as well as how to use a hot head torch, make bicone, tablet, and heart beads, twisties, and encasing! Materials provided for both classes. Wear all natural-fiber clothing. Beginning Acrylic Painting
Kim Juda Souder (BS Art Ed.) will introduce students to paints and supplies needed, techniques including layering, blending, color, brushwork, and composition. Students will take one or two still life paintings home. Age: 16 and up Cost: $80 includes supplies/$70 if providing own supplies, for 4 classes Dates: Wednesdays, June 19 & 26, July 3 & 10, 5:30-7:30pm (register by June 12)
Silk Scarf Painting (two workshops)
Jewel Yoder Hertzler (BS Art Ed.) has worked with silk painting and watercolors for over 30 yrs. In her first workshop shell demonstrate how to create a unique abstract design using silk dyes and various special techniques. In a second workshop a traditional resist method of using dyes will be used to outline floral motifs, then painted with a watercolor-like method. Bring photos, plants or use patterns supplied. All supplies and one silk scarf provided. Collage Beach Scene with Jewel Create a collage format sky and water scene using layers of tissue paper, adding real beach sand and shells! Date: June 8, 12:30-2:30pm
Bird Collage with Kim Juda Souder (BS Art Ed.) Learn about birds and their habitats whil creating a collage with fun materials! Date: July 17, 5:30-7:30pm Drawing and Water Color Painting with Kim Students will first draw and then paint an animal and surrounding landscape to learn watercolor techniques. Date: July 24, 5:30-7:30pm
Greeting Card Workshop with Kim Well make our own greeting cards for any occasion. Envelopes included. Date: July 31, 5:30-7:30pm

Spitzer Art Center is located on the corner of West Market and Willow Street, just a few blocks from downtown Harrisonburg. There is a parking lot behind the Center. Parents are welcome to use the waiting areas while their children take classes. Parents will be asked to fill out a form before children are left for instruction.
